'Five Steps to Commissioning Unique Art'

STEP 1. Introduction and Inspiration

To view artist's portfolios visit www.commissionaire.net, then book a free consultation where Alison will present portfolios from Commissionaire 's ever expanding stable of artists and discuss site-specific design concepts. Interstate clients may request an appointment or arrange for portfolios to be delivered. The client may decide to purchase available artwork, commission a unique work of art, or request to initiate a search for a special piece in order to integrate with the interior design.

STEP 2. Development Q&A

To commission one or several pieces, Commissionaire and the client will select artists and define goals through a Q&A on details such as medium, style, palette, scale, theme, framing presentation, location, timeline and budget. In this concept stage, we encourage the client to speak to, or visit the artists' studios, and if possible, view the location.

STEP 3. Concept and quote presentation

Commissionaire will present a proposal of concepts and, if appropriate, artists sketches outlining the commission. A quote will include a cost breakdown including artwork, any framing and/or presentation expenses, installation fee, delivery and/or shipping, service fees and GST.

The proposal is left with the client. Commissionaire and the artist(s) can also conduct an information talk for clients and guests to present insights into the artist's and their works. This can be done at any location including the artist's studio.

The project will commence with contract confirmation and 50% deposit of the artwork expense. At this stage, the client may wish to collaborate further with the artist to finalise concepts. If further presentations are required involving additional sketches, research and engineering, a fee is payable for related concept development and an updated presentation is given. If the commission proceeds, the fees paid will be deducted from the final invoice.

STEP 4. Updates

A client may wish to view updates by receiving digital photographs of the artwork progress or make an appointment to visit the artist's studio. Framing and specialist presentation needs may be arranged at this point.

STEP 5. Unveiling and installation

Ta-da! Commissionaire and the artist(s) may unveil the completed artwork at the studio or at the time of delivery. Our service includes expert installation and provision of photographs of the artist(s) and artwork to encourage publicity of the commission. We respectfully request permission to document the work once installed.

A signed Certificate of Authenticity and archival advice is presented along with artist biographies and information on the artwork. The final invoice is issued and includes a separate single receipt to show only the artwork and framing details for the owner's provenance and insurance purposes.
