Originally from Sydney, Alison has 14 years experience
as a commercial gallery owner, art dealer, special event coordinator
and lecturer in Australia, Europe and USA, as well as 19 years in corporate
and art public relations.
Career highlights include working in the US for over seven years as
an art dealer and curator where she conceptualised, curated and designed
the layout for exhibitions in her own gallery PhotoGraphic
in New York, and as a guest curator in other gallery’s including
the Australian Embassy, the New York and Los Angeles Australian
Consulates, public spaces, commercial premises and galleries.
In 2002 Alison was invited by Sothebys New York
to curate a “Special Auction and Exhibition” of contemporary
Australian and New Zealand photography that was held at Sothebys
and the Australian Consulate New York.
Alison has lectured on Australian and New Zealand photography
at Photo Koln, Cologne Germany, the University of Virginia,
the Australian Embassy in Washington DC, Gomez Gallery
in Baltimore Maryland and PhotoGraphic Gallery in New York.
Alison’s feature articles have been published in photography magazines
in Australia and America.
Alison has worked as a freelance PR Consultant and Account Executive
for PR consultancies including Hill & Knowlton UK (main client the
Athens 2004 Olympic Bid), and Interaction Sydney (specialising in Sponsorship
and Special Events).
From 1992 to 1996, Alison was director and/or owner of three of Sydney’s
most dynamic art galleries exhibiting work from emerging and established
artists and additionally helped foster their art careers through publicity
and special events.
Alison returned to Australia in late 2004 and launched Commissionaire Fine Art Consultants in 2005. She also works freelance on projects such as the WAYS Charity Fine Art Auction as event coordinator and website designer and consults to artists on exhibitions and events and has done several commissions for Australian property developers Australand.
